Acupuncture

At FLOW, acupuncture isn’t one-size-fits-all. We offer multiple approaches, including neurofunctional / contemporary medical acupuncture, functional dry needling, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) acupuncture. Whether you’re looking to reduce pain, release muscle tension, support recovery, or improve overall well-being, we’ll guide you toward the approach that best fits your body and your needs.

At FLOW, neurofunctional acupuncture rarely works alone. It integrates with physiotherapy, chiropractic care, and exercise rehabilitation as part of a coordinated strategy built around your goals.

What To Expect:

Every session is one-on-one and fully personalized. Treatment is designed to work alongside your training schedule and rehabilitation program. Many patients notice improvements in pain and mobility within a few sessions, though lasting results typically come as part of a broader plan.

Neurofunctional Acupuncture can help with:

  • Sports injuries and overuse conditions

  • Back, neck, and joint pain

  • Nerve pain and dysfunction

  • Inflammation and movement restrictions

Neurofunctional / Contemporary Medical Acupuncture

Certified Providers: Dr. Cristina Leonardelli, Dr. Remi Pearl, Dr. Andrea Guidolin & Allyson Moore

Contemporary medical acupuncture, also known as neurofunctional acupuncture, uses fine needles to directly stimulate the nervous system, driving measurable changes in how your body manages pain, tension, and recovery. This is a modern, evidence-based approach grounded in anatomy and neurophysiology.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncture

Certified Providers: Dr. Andrea Guidolin

TCM acupuncture is a therapeutic approach within Traditional Chinese Medicine that looks beyond isolated symptoms to understand how the body functions as a whole. Rooted in centuries of clinical practice, it works to restore balance across interconnected systems, addressing not just what hurts, but what may be driving it.

Fine needles are placed along specific acupuncture points to regulate the flow of Qi (energy), support internal organ systems, and promote overall well-being. Depending on your presentation, treatment may also incorporate electrical stimulation or auricular (ear) acupuncture and acupressure.

What To Expect:

Each session is tailored to your individual presentation, taking into account your symptoms, lifestyle, and health history. Treatments are designed to be calming and restorative, helping to regulate the nervous system alongside addressing your specific concerns. TCM acupuncture is often integrated with chiropractic as part of a broader care plan.

TCM Acupuncture can help with:

  • Stress, tension, and anxiety

  • Headaches and migraines

  • TMJ dysfunction and vertigo

  • Nerve pain and swelling

  • Acute and chronic pain conditions

Functional Dry Needling

Certified Providers: Dr. Andrea Guidolin & Allyson Moore

Dry needling is a precise, evidence-based technique focused on releasing tight or overactive muscles. Fine needles are inserted directly into trigger points within the muscle tissue to reduce tension, improve local blood flow, and reset communication between the muscle and nervous system.

Unlike acupuncture, which works through broader physiological and energetic mechanisms, dry needling is specifically muscle-focused. It works best as part of a broader plan that includes manual therapy and exercise rehabilitation.

What To Expect:

Many patients experience immediate or short-term improvements in pain and mobility following treatment. Dry needling is particularly effective for athletes and active individuals dealing with muscle tightness, overuse, or performance limitations. It is always paired with movement-based rehabilitation to create lasting results.

Dry Needling can help with:

  • Muscle tightness and trigger points

  • Neck, back, and shoulder pain

  • Hip and lower body dysfunction

  • Reduced mobility and stiffness

  • Sports and overuse injuries

A note on insurance

Our practitioners
Acupuncture Providers
Our providers are licensed to perform acupuncture within their scopes of practice, however, they are not registered acupuncturists under the CTCMPAO. This distinction is what determines how your insurance will categorize the treatment.
How to claim
Submit Under Chiro Or Physio
Many plans only cover acupuncture performed by a registered acupuncturist. Your treatment will most likely need to be submitted under your chiropractic or physiotherapy benefits instead.
